The ancient city of Petra is an astonishing site to visit. We spent 2 days to explore all there is to see and we could have easily spent a third day.
Unfortunately it is also a multi-billion dollar business and its ugly side is visible everywhere: Remains of camp fires and trash can be found inside the ruins. Small children sell postcards and beg tourists for candies. Animal wranglers mistreat horses and donkeys. Horse carriage drivers and horse men hustle tourists into “free” rides only to aggressively demand outrages tips afterwards.
Unfortunately the hospitality and kindness of Jordanian Bedouins does not seem to exist inside the UNESCO World Heritage site of ancient Petra.
