Roads less traveled – Kanazawa

Getting off the usual tourist route Tokyo / Kyoto / Nara / Osaka we visited Kanazawa at the north-west coast of Japan.

Kanazawa is mainly known to be the location of one of Japan’s 3 most beautiful gardens, its castle and the historic samurai and geisha districts. Not so well known is Kanazawa’s extensive and beautiful temple district which we had entirely for ourselves.

In the evening we enjoyed a relaxing bath in the Japanese onsen of the hotel to which we had treated us for our birthdays.

Now we are off to Yokohama and Tokyo to join the cherry blossom celebrations which officially started this weekend. There are more bento boxes and sake to come …
