We discovered that a rental car would be no more expensive than bus tickets for our route through South Africa; so we will enjoy the freedom of stop and go when and where we want for the next few weeks.

During car checkout the friendly service person started marking every existing little dot and scratch on his document. We reminded him that we had bought full coverage so we shouldn’t worry but he answered that there is still personal liability in case of negligence. Asking him if wear-and-tear from the road is personal liability he answered this would be up for interpretation. Worried by the detail of his documentation we decided to play it save: For the next 30 minutes we inspected the car inside-out. After we were done there was no area on the car which didn’t have any bumps and scratches noted. Good luck to figure out which ones we added!
