Cappadocia has been a Christian stronghold for a long time. During the iconoclastic period (725-842) and thereafter many churches have been carved into the soft rocks. Some of them have been preserved and included in open air museums but plenty of them are left alone and can be found on extensive hikes through the valleys. Their interior decorations are sometimes simple symbols and patterns and sometimes rich frescoes. We spent our days searching the region for hidden gems imagining to be the first persons setting foot into them.
