Salar de Uyuni

Salar de Uyuni 2013-05-017We arrived in Uyuni late at night, took a room in the hostel closest to the bus stop and got up at 6:30am to cruise the tour operators for a 3 day trip into the salar and the remote landscapes of Bolivia’s southwest. To our surprise most of the recommended operators did not offer a tour due to a gasoline shortage created by the road blocks. After some searching we still managed to get onto a 3 day tour and enjoyed the world largest salt flat and the spectacular landscapes of the high desert.

Most of the trip happens at an altitude of 4000m and temperatures at night drop below 0C. In the morning of the second day we experienced some snow fall and during that night a blizzard covered our accommodation with a thin snow layer. Due to this weather we couldn’t reach all planned destinations but had exceptional photography conditions.
