We arrived Good Friday in Arequipa. We were told that Friday before Easter is one of the biggest holidays in Peru and therefore most of the offices, markets and restaurants were closed. The day before – Maundy Thursday – people in Arequipa celebrated with an alcoholic chocolate drink. We definitely missed that!

Since the city was very quiet and the streets were unusually empty we took the opportunity to stroll around town and get a first impressions of the small city.
